Nir Gess helps Morocco secure its place in the African Union
20 December 2017

The Goodwill Ambassador of Uganda Nir Gess was mobilized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco to support their readaptation in the African Union. He declaimed a speech during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Emmanuel Fabiano that took place in Malawi in December 2017.

Morocco, one of the founding members of the African Union, left in 1984 after a row over the status of Western Sahara, when its member countries recognised the independence of a disputed territory. After being readmitted in January 2017, Morocco is striving to reobtain the status in front of the 54 state members. The main aim of the Moroccan government is to resolve disputes over the Western Sahara and become the diplomatic state between the African Union and the European Union.

In the speech in Malawi, Nir Gess emphasized the importance of shared viewpoints on urgent issues and the necessity to build abiding diplomatic relationships. The government of Malawi received the speech with approval.
